Barakat Melojuekun, a 16-year-old High School student has accused the current Ogun State Commissioner For Environment, Honorable Abiodun Abudu-Balogun for attempted rape.

In a video that has since gone viral, Melojuekun narrated to the Police about the traumatic experience, how the commissioner’s aides lured her to his house and then to his bedroom where the Commissioner joined her and attempted to rape her. She begged the general public to help her fight for justice because she has never been sexually harassed before.

While struggling with the Commissioner after he fondled her breasts, she stated that he promised to offer her money to a higher institution but she rejected the offer. The Commissioner then tried diabolical means by reciting incantations to scare her to succumb to his demands, but she refused and fought back.

She said she noticed there were people around the house. So, she started shouting at the top of her voice for them to come to her rescue. Since Abiodun Abudu-Balogun did not want them to know what was going on, he stopped and forced her to take N2,000 from before he would release her. He thought this would make her keep her mouth shut.

The brave teenager said she had no clue that the accused was a Commissioner.

Honorable Abiodun Abudu-Balogun, Commisioner for Environment

Honorable Abiodun Abudu-Balogun has since been suspended. The government in statement signed by Tokunbo Talabi, the Secretary to the Ogun State Government, said Mr Abdul-Balogun should vacate his office pending the conclusion of police investigation into the matter.

The statement read: “Whilst taking cognizance of the principle of a suspect being presumed innocent until proven guilty and the public statement issued by Hon. Abudu-Balogun denying the allegation, as a government with zero tolerance for gender-based violence and indeed any criminality, the suspension is a further demonstration of the commitment of Prince Dapo Abiodun Administration to fairness, equity, justice and the rule of law, no matter who is involved.

“In the meantime, the suspended Commissioner has been directed to hand over to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment.”
