Thugs who made away with the Oba of Lagos’ Staff of Office on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 have been given a 24hour ultimatum by the Akinshemoyin Ruling house of Lagos Island to return the Staff or face the consequences thereafter.

On Wednesday, October 21, we learned that a team of soldiers responded to a distress call from the Palace of the Oba of Lagos and they whisked the Oba away before the mob stormed the palace, vandalized and carted away expensive items including the Oba's Staff of Office.

The monarch on Friday October 23, gave the men 24-hour to return the staff of office. Sadly, the Staff was no where to be found by Saturday. Following the expiration of the ultimatum, traditional priests in the state gathered to rain curses and place evil spell on those involved in the looting.

According to BBC's interview with two residents of Osogbo, Chief Ifayemi Elebuibon and Senator Peter Fatomilola, the Oba's Staff of Office is very important to the throne beause without the Staff, an Oba has no authority. He is as good as the ordinary man.

They said the thugs pretended as though they did not know the significance of the Staff of Office, but they believe they knew and it was intentional to disrespect the throne.

Chief Elebuibon said in the Yoruba Land, the King is second to God and that is why he gives command.

Elder Fatomilola added that in the old days, the Community would dethrone a King for not having his Staff of Office. Begging the person who stole the Staff to bring it back was another option. Otherwise, without the Staff of Office, you are referred to as "Mr." and not a "King."

Both men said whoever committed the act to the palace, insulted the Oba.

Mr. Rilwan Akiolu is a strong supporter of The All Progressive Congress (APC) and his Palace has announced that they are in full support of the #EndSARS Protect and that they are strongly against any form of Police Brutality in the country.

Politicians such as Shehu Sanie have sent out appeal to those who stole his Staff of Office and customized shoes to return them to the palace.

Babalawo Association rain curses on hoodlums who stole the Oba of Lagos Staff Of Office after the 24hours ultimatum expired.

Someone needs to be fired. If the Oba's Staff of Office was this important, why did the Palace staff fail to take it with him when the soldiers came to rescue him from the Palace - before the hoodlums showed up?

Or is the Staff of Office supposed to remain in the Palace and not taken with him?
