Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) postpones the General Elections (presidential and parliamentary) just hours before voting was due to take place.

INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu said after the Commission had a meeting on February 15th, 2019, to review it's preparation for the 2019 General Elections which was scheduled for February 16th, 2019 and March 2nd, 2019, they came to a conclusion that the elections should be rescheduled in order to ensure free, fair and credible elections.

The Commission has now rescheduled the Presidential and National Assembly Elections to next Saturday, February 23rd, 2019 while the Governorship, State House of Assembly and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council Elections has been rescheduled to Saturday, March 9th, 2019.

"This will afford the Commission the opportunity to address identified challenges in order to maintain the quality of our elections," said Yakubu.
