Kofi Annan: Former UN Secretary-General, Dies At 80

Kofi Annan a former UN Secretary-General has passed away. He was 80 years old.

Annan was born in old Ashanti Heartland in 1938 before Ghana became the first country in Sub-Sahara Africa to gain independence from colonial rule.

He was first black African to lead the United Nations serving as the seventh UN Secretary-General, from 1997 to 2006, which made him the first to rise from within the ranks of the United Nations staff.

Ghana has suffered a great loss and the world has joined the country in mourning 'ghana's grandson of tribal chiefs.'

In honor of the late Ghanaian diplomat, President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana has ordered flags to fly at half-mast for a whole week. The President also reassures the country's 28 million people that the Nobel Peace Prize winner left the world without pain because died in his sleep.
