Ghanaian Police Officer Assaults Woman Carrying A Baby

On Thursday, July 19th, a woman identified as Patience Osafo was giving a beating of her life by Police Office Godzi Frederick Amanor.

According to the victim - who was carrying her grandchild at the time of the assault - she is a petty trader in Accra, Ghana and she has been banking at the Shiashie branch of Midland Savings and Loans for years.

Osafo who sells toffees at spanner junction near Accra Mall, said she was very broke and had borrowed money from some people that she intended to pay back as soon as possible. She had a total of GH270 in her bank account and she thought it was time for her to withdraw all her savings from Midland Savings and Loans.

It all began on Friday July 13th, when she showed up at the bank early in the morning. She waited up till 4:00 p.m. and was told by the staff to return back the following Monday July 16th because the bank was having some network issues.

On July 16th, she was at the bank as early as 7:30 a.m. and still had to wait all day for nothing. She could not get her money. She was asked to return the following day again.

She was at the bank Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday desperate for money to take care of her financial problems but the bank wouldn't give her the little savings she had with them.

According to trader, she vowed not to leave the bank that Thursday July 19th without collecting her entire savings. This was when the staff invited Corporal Amanor to kick her out of the bank and that was how the whole scuffle and assault began.

Ironically, after being brutalized by the police Officer, the bank manager paid her GH270 in full.

We learned that Officer Amanor has been arrested since the video of his bizarre behavior circulated the internet and ignited a worldwide rage.
