Las Vegas Mass Shooting: 59 dead, 527 Hurt

A country music festival in Las Vegas on Sunday evening, turned tragic after a gunman on the 32nd floor of Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino opened fired on concertgoers of over 22,000 during the outdoor Route 91 Harvest country music festival. 59 people have been confirmed dead while over 527 have been injured.

The shooter who was later identified as Stephen Craig Paddock, was also confirmed dead by Joseph Lombardo, the sheriff of Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

At first, the people thought the sound of the gun shot was just firecrackers until they noticed people around them where getting hit by bullets and bleeding. The arena turned into a death zone as people screamed and ran for their lives.

According to the Police, Paddock acted alone, he had no previous criminal record and no known affiliation with terror groups. He reportedly shot himself to death before the SWAT teams could make their way to his hotel room.

Also, the 64-year-old retiree from Mesquite, Nevada, had as many as 23 guns — their calibers ranging from .223 to .308, some with scopes — authorities said.

The attack has been described as the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.
