There was drama in the Edo State House of Assembly on Monday, August 14th, after 19 members of the house impeached Speaker of the House, Mr Justin Okonoboh, his deputy, Mrs Elizabeth Atvie and the Majority Leader of the House, Folly Ogedengbe for alleged abuse of office.

Though Okonoboh told the Press that his impeachment was illegal and went ahead to order the suspension of those involved, a new speaker Honourable Kabiru Ajoto was elected immediately.

In a press conference, Honorable Ajoto dismissed Okonoboh's allegation, stating that the exercise followed due process with 16 lawmakers initially coming together and deciding to impeach Okonobor. He went further to emphasize that 3 more members later appended their signatures, increasing the number to 19.

Okonoboh was strongly critisized for running the house like his personal enterprise. The angry lawmakers also accused the former speaker for allegedly shutting down the House to attend his son's graduation in the United States.

Shockingly the tension in the room resulted to some slapping, kicking and throwing of chairs by these grown men.
