French Election: Emmanuel Macron Defeats Le Pen

Emmanuel Macron wins french presidential election defeating far-right National leader Marine Le Pen on Sunday by in a decisive victory.

The youthful former investment banker and political newcomer promised to make change with his busines-friendly ideology. He will be the youngest president in the 59-year history of France’s Fifth Republic after leading an improbable campaign that swept aside France’s establishment political parties.

While Le Pen threatened to leave the European Union, Macron wanted to solidify the Union. A move many believed contributed to his Sunday victory.

“I will do everything I can in the coming five years to make sure you never have a reason to vote for extremism again,” the president-elect said on Sunday evening.
