Maldivian Vogue Model Found Dead in Rajshahi Hostel

Rhauda Atif a maldivian model and a second year student of MBBS was found hanging at a female dormitory of Rajshahi Islami Bank Medical College Hospital on Wednesday.

Atif created a buzz in 2014 after posting a photo of herself which she captioned Maldivian Girl With Aqua Blue Eyes. In October 2016, her fame skyrocketed after she was featured with 5 other ladies on the cover of Vogue Indian edition. She became an international model with over 30,000 instagram followers.

The 20-year-old's life seemed perfect and she was greatly admired. She was even congratulated via twitter by former Maldives president.

Atif who wanted to be a medical doctor said: "Modelling is a hobby rather than a career for me, since I’m studying to become a doctor."

When her colleagues saw her body hanging from the ceiling tied to her scarf, they alerted the Cops who rushed to Atif's singleroom at the hostel of the Islami Bank Medical College. They gained entrance into the room after breaking the door. Initially, a foul play was suspected, but after conducting an autopsy on the body, the officials reported that it was a case of suicide.

The team who conducted the autopsy also said: "There was no evidence of sexual or any other kind of abuse. We've sent for further tests in Dhaka to determine if she had ingested any pills. However, at this point, we are certain that this was a suicide."Mahmuda Begum, superintendent of the female-only hostel, said Athif "always looked happy" and "it is hard to believe she would commit suicide".

Atif has been laid to rest. The number of people at the funeral were 11 including her parents, brother and cousins. Maldivian Ambassador to Bangladesh, Aishath Shaan Shakir, was also present to pay her last respect.
