UK- based student, Emmanuel Kalejaiye who murdered his mother in one of the most horrifying way, has been sentenced to life in prison.
On September 26, 2013, the victim Tolu Kalejaiya, a Nigerian woman, who worked as an accountant for Camden Council, was stabbed to death more than 40 times by her son, Emmanuel.
According to reports, there was no way Tolu would have survived the frenzied knife attack that morning after suffering multiple injuries to the the head, face, neck, upper limbs and hands at her home in Wickford, Essex.
According to Daily Mail, Emmanuel is referred to as a "psycho killer" because he tried to cover up by dressing in his mother's pink tracsuits and drove away in her car. An attempt to deceive the neighbors into thinking that his mother had left home on the day of the incident.
The jury was played a disturbing three-minute voicemail in which the mother-of-two can be heard screaming 'don't stab me, don't stab me - you're a demon', before the message fell chillingly silent. However, a jury found the 22-year-old, Essex University student not guilty of murder, but guilty of manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility, due to mental health issues after a trial in April last year.
'I admit killing my mother this morning by stabbing her. I did this because she subjected me to a lifetime of physical and mental abuse.
'She used the Bible to rationalise what she did to me. I believe she manipulated and brainwashed me.
'I have been very depressed for a long time. I have tried to overcome it but I couldn't take it anymore,' he told the police after he turned himself in.
Though Tolu tried to fight for her life and even called her boyfriend, Leo Shogunle to come to her rescue during the attack. Shogunle did not answer the 7:30 a.m. call he was still sleeping. Sadly, by the time he listened to the voice message and rushed to Tolu's home, it was too late. He saw Tolu's lifeless body lying on the kitchen floor and alerted the police.
Since evidence from an expert psychiatrist revealed that Kalejaiye had been suffering from severe depression and paranoid schizophrenia at the time of the attack, judge Christopher Ball stated that Emmanuel would be receiving psychiatric treatment while in jail.
This is so sad, he has mental illness, yet he was sensible enough to disguise himself as a woman to hide his true identity from the neigbors. What a waste?
