It's a historic day for the country Nigeria as the president-elect Muhammadu Buhari has been sworn in as the new president of the country.

Buhari, 72, has taken over from Goodluck Jonathan who ruled the country since 2010.

The inauguaration ceremony took place at the Federal Capital, Abuja's Eagel Square.

Buhari is a former military ruler of Nigeria from 1984 to 1985. Today, he is back in office as a the democratic president of the country. During his tenure in office as a military ruler, he was able to instill "War Against Indicipline." This was probably one of the major areas where he gained a lot of support from the people. However, he was citicized greatly for poor human rights record.

At the inauguration, Buhari had to wait for Mr Jonathan to hand over the constitution and national flags before he took his oath of office.
