Nigerian Man Arrested For Selling 14-Month-Old Son To A Herbalist

A palm tree harvester by the name George Maduabuchi is in the net of the Nigerian police for allegedly selling his 14-month-old son to a herbalist.

Maduabuchi who hails from Owerrinta in the Isiala-Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State, together with his accomplice Obinna Erondu - now at large - tried to deceive his wife into believing that he was taking their sick son get medical care for his cough. When Maduabuchi returned home without the child, the mother of the child who suspected a foul play, immediately called for help by raising alarm and calling her husband out.

According to Punch, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joshak Habila, who paraded the suspect along with other suspected criminals on Thursday, said, “Luck ran out on Maduabuchi when the wife alerted the police on his questionable role when the baby fell ill and he took him out and did not return with him.”

However, the suspect has denied the allegation that he did not sell his son, but only took him to a herbalist when he took ill.

“The herbalist gave me money and told me that he could not heal the baby. I therefore left the baby in the herbalist’s home.” Maduabuchi said.

On the other hand, his wife Eberechi said her husband did took their son to the herbalist. However, he returned home without the child, but with bundles of money instead.

“When I demanded explanations on the whereabouts of our son, he could not offer any convincing answer.” she said.

Neighbors who heard pregnant Eberechi screaming out loud, rushed to her rescue and alerted the police.

Maduabuchi was picked up by the police. He later led the police to the herbalist’s house at Owerrinta where baby was recovered.
