Aruna Quadri Becomes First African To Win 2014 ITTF's Award

On Wednesday, January 7, Nigerian tennis player made a world history. Aruna Quadri, 26, won the 2014 International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Star Player, making him the first African to win the coveted award.

The colorful award ceremony which took place at the Armani Hotel in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), had respected table tennis players and administrators from around the world. Quadri received two awards ahead of players from Asia and Europe.

“This is the best day of my career and I want to thank the organizers for considering me for this. I also want to thank all my fans all over the world for their support because this is unbelievable for me and I promise to continue to work hard,” he said.

Quadri who is currently ranked 30th in the world, was voted best male table tennis player because he defeated a number of reputable players in various competitions last year.
