Phaedra Parks Files For Divorce From Apollo Nida

I guess the worse has finally happened. Phaedra Parks of The Real Housewives of Atlanta is pulling the plug on her marriage to Apollo Nida.

The reason why this is shocking to everyone is because, Phaedra did not file for divorce while her husband was preparing to go to jail. She basically waited until he was behind bars and then she quickly "retained an attorney with the intent of amicably ending her marriage," her rep, Steve Honig, exclusively confirms to E! News in a statement.

“With all the drama and problems in Apollo’s life, he was off the chain, emotional and unpredictable, and she thought that if she presented him with divorce papers before he went into prison, it could have possibly had a very bad ending.”

The RHOA star had always planned to divorce Apollo, but she wanted to make certain she could do so safely, the source added.

“To make sure nothing went wrong, she did what a southern lady would do. She waited until Apollo was in captivity and proceeded with her plan to leave him.”

Nida who checked himself into prison last month, is currently serving his an eight year sentence for bank fraud and identity theft. Prior to his sentence, he has been partying hard every night - obviously because he knows he won't have access to such freedom for the long haul- and that made his wife very uncomfortable.

On the very day Nida, 35, went to jail, Phaedra's rep, Steve Honig said in a statement that the 'Donkey Booty' creator "is now putting all of her energy into ensuring the well-being of her two children and making decisions that are in their best interests," he said. "This situation has put a tremendous strain on Phaedra and her family and she is working hard to bring back a sense of normalcy to everyone's lives."

This is very sad. Phaedra is my favorite star on the reality show. I love their union. I just wish Appolo wasn't that greedy. He had no reason to be involved in a criminal case again. For the mere fact that he has served five years for auto title fraud - before getting married to Phaedra in 2009 - he should have thought twice.
