Geoffrey Holder - James Bond’s Baron Samedi dies At 84

Actor, dancer, artist and choreographer Geoffrey Richard Holder has been reported dead. He passed away on Sunday at the age of 84.

If you remember James Bond's movie, 'Live and Let Die' - the first of the James Bond movies to star Roger Moore - Holder played role of iconic top-hatted voodoo villain Baron Samedi.

Born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago on August 1 in 1930. He went on to become a celebrated dancer, choreographer, musician, painter and designer.

Holder made his Broadway debut in 1954 as a featured dancer in House of Flowers, which featured the lady who would become his wife, Carmen de Lavallade. In 1955, he married Carmen and they both had a son together.

Other appearances made by the actor includes: 2005’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Annie and Boomerang - acting alongside Eddie Murphy in 1992. He also did the many ads such as the 1983 7UP advert.

In 2010, Mr. Holder told Dance Magazine that his artistic life was governed by these simple words.

He said: “I create for that innocent little boy in the balcony who has come to the theater for the first time.

“He wants to see magic, so I want to give him magic. He sees things that his father couldn't see.”

Geoffrey Richard Holder is survived by Ms. de Lavallade and their son, Léo.
