Miss America 2014 Nina Davuluri, crowns Miss New York Kira Kazantsev as Miss America 2015 during the Miss America 2015 pageant, Sunday, September.

Kazantsev is originally from California, but she had to move to New York for College. She speaks three languages fluently and is a strong advocate for domestic violence survivors.

As a survivor of domestic violence herself, she told NPR "I want people to stop asking 'Why doesn't she just leave? Every woman is an expert in her own case, and there are so many extenuating circumstances that lead to a woman staying with her abuser."

She was named the new Miss America Sunday night, marking the third year in a row that a contestant from New York has walked away with the crown in the nationally televised pageant.

Crowned at Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall by former Miss America, Nina Davuluri, her talent performance was excellent. She sang Pharell Williams' song "Happy" while sitting cross-legged on the stage and banging a red plastic cup on the floor. She looked amazing and her performance was very interesting and unique. My favorite of all the talent performance.

Her first runner-up was Miss Virginia Courtney Paige Garrett.

The other top 5 finalists were Miss Arkansas Ashton Jo Campbell; Miss Florida Victoria Cowen; and Miss Massachusetts Lauren Kuhn while Miss North Dakota, Jacky Arness was voted for by her peers as Miss Congeniality.
